"Ghost Lovers" explores the intimate encounters between those of this world and those inhabiting the realm of the dead. A rookie cop meets up with the spirit of a deceased leather master when he is assigned to patrol a former bondage club that is slated for destruction. A temperamental porn star who insists he only 'tops' commits a fatal error when he mocks a deceased 'top' star of an earlier era. Follow the adventures of a fraternity president when he makes the mistake of assuming that a house was deserted. A gumshoe in 1948 New York City takes on a case that 'takes him on'. Then go back to the Roman era in the age of Augustus for a story about two enemies and the time they spent in a forest after brutal battle. Finally we conclude with a bizarre tale entitled "I Stalked The Undead."

The pompa circensis, the procession which preceded the chariot races in the arena, was both a prominent political pageant and a hallowed religious ritual. Traversing a landscape of memory, the procession wove together spaces and institutions, monuments and performers, gods and humans into an image of the city, whose contours shifted as Rome changed. In the late Republic, the parade produced an image of Rome as the senate and the people with their gods - a deeply traditional symbol of the city which was transformed during the empire when an imperial image was built on top of the republican one. In late antiquity, the procession fashioned a multiplicity of Romes: imperial, traditional, and Christian. In this book, Jacob A. Latham explores the webs of symbolic meanings in the play between performance and itinerary, tracing the transformations of the circus procession from the late Republic to late antiquity.

Ovid's Metamorphoses gains its ideal twenty-first-century herald in Stanley Lombardo's bracing translation of a wellspring of Western art and literature that is too often treated, even by poets, as a mere vehicle for the scores of myths it recasts and transmits rather than as a unified work of art with epic-scale ambitions of its own. Such misconceptions are unlikely to survive a reading of Lombardo's rendering, which vividly mirrors the brutality, sadness, comedy, irony, tenderness, and eeriness of Ovid's vast world as well as the poem's effortless pacing. Under Lombardo's spell, neither Argus nor anyone else need fear nodding off. The translation is accompanied by an exhilarating Introduction by W. R. Johnson that unweaves and reweaves many of the poem's most important themes while showing how the poet achieves some of his most brilliant effects. An analytical table of contents, a catalog of transformations, and a glossary are also included.

The new notion of the functional model, which the poet often used when making a political statement is introduced. New interpretations of a number of the Eclogues and passages of the Georgics and the Aeneid are given.
