What happens when you're an alpha male but you can't pay your bills? Antonio's solution is to go get drunk and get laid by a stranger-all at the expense of his long-suffering wife Abigail. But after Antonio meets mystery woman Jennifer, he gets an indecent proposal. Jennifer and her husband have the solution to Antonio's financial problems but they want a piece of his soul in return - namely the sexual services of his wife! Antonio laughs the deal off...until his wife tells him that she's willing to sign a contract and perform, IF it will solve their debt crisis. What follows is a shocking journey into sexual depravity, where macho man Antonio will have to unlearn his big ego and watch his wife surrender herself to one orgasmic experience after another at the hands of men she'll be dreaming about for the rest of her life. The psychological torments he must endure mount through each encounter as he discovers what it means to be truly cuckolded by his wife, inside and out. Real life cuckoldress Raven Merlot continues her exploration of the psyche of a hotwife and her cuckold. She can't wait to share with you the thrills that Abigail experiences at the hands of better lovers than her husband. As always, the author wants you to understand what is going on in minds of both the liberated hotwife and the increasingly submissive cuckolded husband.

This enlightening work investigates the history, incidence, and causes of a unique sexual lifestyle pursued by increasing numbers of couples. It is called by many names, and lived in a variety of ways by different couples. The most common terms used to describe it are 'hotwife' or 'cuckold lifestyle.' This sexual practice, a form of sexual nonmonogamy, is distinguished from swinging and polyamory in that the husband rarely seeks sexual contact outside the marriage except for participation in group sex with his wife and other men, while the wife is permitted and often encouraged to pursue unrestrained sexual encounters with other men. The author includes interviews and comments from couples living the lifestyle throughout the U.S., and presents the stories in an attempt to determine the history of this sexual practice and its role in society and in relationships. He explores the psychological, social, biological, and evolutionary underpinnings of this uncommon and socially taboo behavior in an effort to make it more comprehensible to those engaged in the lifestyle and those who are just curious.

"An interesting and original collection. A must for all those interested in women artists and the women who have written about them."--Linda Nochlin, author of Representing Women "Kristen Frederickson and Sarah Webb have provided us with a missing link, a truly feminist art history that connects with the work done in the 1970s and thankfully ignores the 'post-feminist' hiatus. Singular Women is a model for future scholarship on women's art. If only the books it inspires are as rigorous, vigorous, varied, and readable as this one."--Lucy Lippard, author of The Pink Glass Swan: Selected Feminist Essays on Art "The most provocative, challenging, and intimate writing to appear in feminist art history since Linda Nochlin launched the field with her essay 'Why Are There No Great Women Artists?' Thirty years later there are both great women artists and great women writers. This book assembles some of the best and boldest among them. Not afraid to address the boring, the failed, the neglected, or the masterpiece, Singular Women sets the standard for feminist art history of the twenty-first century."--Peggy Phelan, author of the survey essay in Art and Feminism, ed. Helena Reckitt "This important volume addresses the vexed question whether the traditional monograph, rightly under suspicion in recent years, can be reinvented to serve feminist art history well. Its excellent--and varied--essays answer with a confident and convincing affirmative, demonstrating how we can talk about women's art practice without abandoning the biographical and social stories that enable and illuminate it."--Janet Wolff, author of Resident Alien: Feminist Cultural Criticism "Contributes new understandings to the now familiar problems of writing biographies of artists and, in particular, writing about a woman artist. It re-inscribes the woman artist in the discourse while probing--through a variety of approaches--the possibilities for a critical discourse on and appreciation of the woman artist."--Catherine M. Soussloff, author of The Absolute Artist: The Historiography of a Concept "Demonstrates how women historians have had to develop close relationships (real or imagined) with the artists about whom they write. The reader is allowed to see the desire that constitutes, but is normally hidden within, the writing of history."--Jane Blocker, author of Where Is Ana Mendieta? Identity, Performativity, and Exile

"Professor Surridge exhibits a clear and persuasive historical sense as well as sensitivity to the novels and stories. I believe this study will have lasting value because of its careful historical research and corresponding interpretation of the texts," says Naomi Wood, Kansas State University The Offenses Against the Person Act of 1828 was a piece of legislation that opened magistrates' courts to abused working-class wives. Newspapers in turn reported on these proceedings and in this way the Victorian scrutiny of domestic conduct began. But how did popular fiction treat the phenomenon of "private" family violence? Bleak Houses: Marital Violence in Victorian Fiction traces novelists' engagement with the wife-assault debates in the public press between 1828 and the turn of the century. Lisa Surridge examines the early works of Charles Dickens, Dombey and Son and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, in the context of the intense debates on wife assault and manliness in the late 1840s and early 1850s. George Eliot's Janet's Repentance is read in light of the parliamentary debates on the 1857 Divorce Act. Marital cruelty trials provide the structure for both John Sutherland's The Woman in White and Anthony Trollope's He Knew He Was Right. Locating the New Woman fiction of Mona Caird and the reassuring detective investigations of Sherlock Holmes in the context of late-Victorian feminism and the great marriage debate in the Daily Telegraph, Surridge illustrates how fin-de-sicle fiction brought male sexual violence and the viability of marriage itself under public scrutiny. Bleak Houses thus demonstrates how Victorian fiction was actively engaged with the wife-assault debates of the nineteenth century, debates which both constructed and invaded the privacy of the middle-class home. ABOUT THE AUTHOR---Lisa Surridge is associate professor of English at the University of Victoria, Canada. She is co-editor of Mary Elizabeth Braddon's Aurora Floyd and has published on Victorian fiction in many journals including Victorian Literature and Culture, Women's Writing, Dickens Studies Annual, Victorian Newsletter, and Victorians Institute Journal.
